Announcing the 2011 Go.Go Elements

This year the fine folks at Elemental have completely run out of ideas and are counting on your genius to get us through.  We’re tired, we’ve poured our Collective brains out to bring you some of Providence’s finest new work.  Now, we’re asking you to take up pen and paper and save our asses – we need plays!

The Elements:
A Bone
A Pickle
Mistaken Identity
A Moment of Intense Light
Something Important Goes Unheard

Infrequently Asked Questions:

What do I do with these elements?
We drew these five elements out of three hats full of suggestions (two cowboy and one baseball, to be precise) and you need to incorporate them into your play.  How you incorporate them is up to you.  They can be literal, they can be suggested, they can be metaphorical – they just need to be in there.  Keep in mind that the elements aren’t meant to be a block to writing.  They simply serve as a jumping off point.

How long do I have to write my play?
Plays are due by 5pm on November 1, 2010.  So, about six weeks.

How long should the play be?
Up to you.  If all you have time for is a ten minute play, then submit that. If inspiration strikes, and you write a three hour magnum opus, send it in.  Once we receive all submissions, we’ll pick the ones we want to do, and decide how to structure the festival.

Is there a cast limit?

No.  Keep in mind that if you write a wonderful play with 75 people, we will probably double cast many of the roles.

How will the plays be selected?
When we receive a play, we will remove the author’s name and it will be read by a selection committee comprised of ETC Members.  Members of the selection committee are ineligible for play submission.

What are my obligations if my play is selected?
Playwrights must be available for rewrites during the rehearsal process.   We will begin rehearsals on December 14th and open on January 28th.  We will give time off for the Holidays.

Will I get paid?
There will be a stipend paid to all artistic staff of the Go.Go Plays.  Rest assured, the compensation will not be a lot.   We pay everyone involved in the production the same amount.  If you’re looking to make money, this isn’t the place for you.  If you’re looking to write a great play and have it fully realized, then come on in.

How do I submit?

By US Post – Please make sure your name is only on the cover page, and mail your hard copy to:
