deca.go.go: the exquisite corpse plays
by Alexander Platt and Dave Rabinow
Directed by Peter Sampieri**

January 22 – February 1, 2009
95 Empire Street, Home of Perishable Theatre, Providence RI
deca.go.go: the exquisite corpse plays was our most ambitious Go.Go project yet: ten plays from two playwrights, with a baroque twist to the challenge. The plays were written one at a time, and each time a play was finished, our dramaturg Melissa Rabinow selected the final image and passed it on the other playwright as a starting point. This was all that the writers, Dave Rabinow and Alexander Platt, knew about each other’s work. Director Peter Sampieri wove the whole thing into a kaleidoscope of a production – ostensibly the lost works of famed (and imaginary) surrealist Avide Robinatt – nominated by Motif Magazine for “Best New Work“, and earning a nod from the Providence Phoenix for “Best Surrealist Play“.

Recession! (The Musical)
Directed by D’Arcy Dersham
Featuring Kevin Delaney, Elizabeth Gotauco, Katie Hughes, Alexander Platt, Dave Rabinow and Kelly Seigh
July 4 & 5, 2009
95 Empire Street, Home of Perishable Theatre, Providence RI
On Independence Day weekend, 2009, we addressed the economic crisis in the only manner it can possibly be adequately dealt with: the late-night musical sci-fi radio play. Recession! (The Musical) offered theatergoers the chance to finally see what happens when free market capitalism, time machines, and catchy tunes are allowed to run amok.
The play, presented in Elemental’s patented old-timey radio style, follows the adventures of uber-economist Alan Greenspan and his youthful ward Sherman as they board a time machine and race through American history, attempting to forestall the current economic meltdown. On their travels, they encounter luminaries such as Bill Clinton, Ayn Rand, and a young Billy Gates. Could one of them be the mysterious evil genius behind the econo-lypse? Or is something even more sinister afoot? Music and mayhem, love stories and live sound effects, thrills, chills, and the devaluation of everything except a cheap laugh, all rolled up into one!

Amadeus

by Peter Shaffer
Directed by Alexander Platt
Featuring Tanya Anderson*, Philippe Bowgen, D’Arcy Dersham*, Bryan Kimmelman, Kelly Nichols and Max Vogler*
October 29 – November 22, 2009
Beneficent Congregational Church – The Round Top Center
In the Fall of 2009, we presented a scaled-down, actor-driven arrangement of the transcendent drama Amadeus. Directed by Elemental’s Artistic Director, Alexander Platt, Amadeus was a co-production of ETC and Big Table Productions, an organization of Rhode Island educational and business leaders, students, and theatre artists. Together, they helped create The Amadeus Project, an ongoing curriculum initiative inspired by the play. Their concepts were implemented in schools and universities across the state throughout the year previous to our production. Amadeus was called “masterful” and “exquisite” by the Providence Phoenix, and both the Phoenix and the Providence Journal hailed it as one of the best productions of 2009.
