ProJo.com – “A must see for anyone who likes good theater”!

This is a shoe-string production, to be sure, with very little in the way of sets and embellishments. But it is also a powerful production, with excellent leads and the addition of live music, rather than the usual taped sound track.

ProJo.com – Elemental Theatre’s pared-down ‘Amadeus’ will have live orchestration

It was five years ago when actors Alexander Platt and Max Vogler, two Trinity Conservatory grads, got together at New York’s St. John The Divine to read Amadeus, Peter Shaffer’s imagined rivalry between Mozart and the cunning but mediocre court composer Antonio Salieri. Just when Salieri rails against God for short-changing him in the talent department, a real-life lightning storm erupted outside the Gothic cathedral.

Opening Night

Tonight is opening night for Amadeus! We’ve had a great run of previews, and we are looking forward to a warm house tonight.

Trinity Rep MFA program showcased in Amadeus

At the Trinity Rep Conservatory – now Brown/Trinity Rep – MFA candidates learn the technique of acting through voice, movement, dance and scene study. But the most important lesson students learn is that they are responsible for their own professional and artistic development.

One more week

One week from tonight we’ll be performing in front of our first preview audience! Last night the musicians came to rehearsal, and their sounds transported us beyond the walls of the space. It’s so great to have them with us, and reminded me of why Mozart’s music sends Salieri into a tailspin, equal parts ecstasy and pain.

Amadeus to be performed with live music

Amadeus Director Alexander Platt sees the creation of music to be at the core of the story of Amadeus, and therefore feels it is important for the audience to experience the music live. “We felt that because music was one of the most important elements, we didn’t want to just hear the music – we wanted to feel it. And the only way to do that is to have the music being performed in the room with the audience.”

Amadeus to be staged in Providence Church

Elemental Theatre Collective, in association with Big Table Productions, will stage Peter Shaffer’s Tony Award winning play, Amadeus, this October and November. Directed by Elemental’s Artistic Director Alexander Platt, the play opens in previews October 29 and runs through November 22 at the Round Top Center at Beneficent Church in downtown Providence.

Recession! (The Musical) – Opening Night

Last night we were able to be in Perishable Theatre for a tech run, and the cast expanded visibly in the space. It was amazing to see their performances grow in size, to hear the music fill the room, and to see them dashing madly to find foley props in time for their cues.

Recession! (The Musical) first rehearsal

Tonight the whole cast assembled to start learning the music of Recession! (The Musical).
Sitting amidst the remains of burritos from Tacqueria Pacifica and mugs of Lapsang Souchon – which, according to Kevin, smells like Band Aids – we made our way through the six songs that Dave and Peter have written for the show.

deca.go.go: The Exquisite Corpse plays begin January 22

A crumbling, ramshackle building in the southwest corner of Paris was slated for destruction. In the course of its demolition, a hidden section of its moldering basement was discovered. Inside was a cot with long-fouled bedding, a small tin teapot, and some twenty-odd empty absinthe bottles.
